AccessibilityAccessibility features of the PFM web siteThis section lists the features used to facilitate the accessibility, of the content of the Polzeath Family Mission web site. Web standards for accessibilityThe web site has been built to comply as far as possible with the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 and has been tested using the Watchfire WebExact (Bobby) online test tool. Visual presentationThe web site uses Cascading Style Sheets for visual layout and design, and the use of HTML tables and frames have been minimsed. Font sizes (except the side menu and fixed links) are defined relatively, which means that they are determined by the user's preferences. All content can be resized using the browser's mechanism (View»Text Size / View»Text Zoom / View»Zoom). All content is accessible from the sitemap which repeats all the links in resizable text and can be viewed by non javascript enabled browsers. A web standards compliant visual browser will display the pages as they are intended. However, all the content of the site should be accessible using any browser or internet device. Document structureThe content of each page uses consistent semantic markup. For example,
tags are used for page titles and
tags are used for main sub headings. Similarly, abbreviations are marked up with tags. Emphasis is added using the meaningful and tags, rather than the deprecated (italics) and (bold) tags, which are merely visual. The pages are logically ordered to make sense when read in a linear fashion (by text-only browsers for instance). Structural tags have been used to provide alternative browsers (especially screen readers) with the opportunity to add meaning to the content of a page. LinksWherever possible, link text is written to make sense when taken out of context. This means that use of text such as "click here" or "more" for the hypertext links have been kept to a minimum. Browsing devices that can extract a list of links from a page will therefore render meaningful content. Links will not automatically open new windows, except where stated, e.g. for external links on the Links page, or for downloads of documents such as the plan or prayer letter. This ensures that the user retains complete control of their browser. ImagesAll images used on the site have alt attributes to provide alternative text that will appear in browsers that do not support images. All images have been optimised for the smallest file size without losing clarity to ensure that users accessing the site via a modem are not inconvenienced by long download times. If you do have any problems with accessing any areas of this site, please email the webmaster@polzeathfm.org and we will endeavour to resolve them as soon as possible. |
